In the June/July ‘13 issue of Lucky Magazine they mentioned having an online section dedicated to “100 Ways to Wear Cutoff Shorts”.

Knowing I’m a fan of cutoffs and practically live in them when the temps heat up, I quickly tapped my way over to the site.

How lackluster, boring, uninspiring, and most of all, “OBVIOUS” could these 100 ways be?  Lucky seems to be geared toward the average shopper, the average fashion brain, those that shop at sub par stores…usually found at any mall in the midwest.

I did find a few styles for outfit inspiration, but nothing blockbuster that I could not whipped up on any given summer weekend myself.  Nonetheless, I’ll try to keep these 4 looks fresh in my mind starting next weekend when I’m looking to throw on some cutoffs and get on with my life.  I think these looks will serve me well when running around the city on an afternoon of errand running.

This is about all the skin I can bare right now…because where the hell is mother nature on this rodeo called “spring?”.

(ok so today is a little nicer than say the day before…but still, she needs to get the memo already)

For now, it looks like booties with skimmers (the springiest thing I will wear at the moment till the sun shines some warmth on NYC), and a fleck of wrist for my bracelets.  Other than that, I am covered up like its January.

How are you making do with Spring’s late arrival?  Give me some ideas on how to make my winter wear more “spring-y”.

What I Want: FOR SPRING

As each new season starts, I always find myself wanting a few new pieces to kick my closet into high gear.  Spring is (slowly) making its self known to NYC, and I’ve got my eyes on the hunt for a few items…

A STATEMENT NECKLACE:

Makes any simple outfit splendid! Certainly adds spice to t-shirts and jeans!

A FITTED LEATHER JACKET:

The one I have currently, its more of a bomber style.  I want one with a wee slimmer fit, and simple details.  Perfect for reigning in all those loose tees or flowy dresses, right?

WAVY, EASY HAIR:

A la Nicole Richie, Alexa Chung, The Fall 2013 Pucci runway show, etc…got my hair appointment scheduled for May 18th, but it can’t get here fast enough!

In addition, a few flowy tops to dress up my jeans, a new blazer or two, and some slick summer sandals or heels will find their way in my shopping bag.  Obviously :)

So what’s on your spring fashion wish-list?

What a busy week I had!

It made for more exciting entries into my “Sketchy Style” journal though…because I’m all for dressing down when there’s no real social activities on my agenda. (notice Monday and Friday when all I did was work then hit the gym…yeah, BORING)

First up was Tuesday…the Lower East Side Girls’ Club Fat Tuesday party at Le Poisson Rouge.  Then Wednesday…dinner & drinks with my BFF, Amy, who’s been in NYC for the Toy Fair (she works at Faber Casteel, so naturally she’s an exhibitor), and then Thursday…VALENTINE’S DAY!

Phew…busy week, but not busy enough to keep me from whipping out the ol’ markers and colored pencils I’ve been hoarding ever since fashion school.

So, a little background on this “sketchy” thing I’m up to…I’ve been noticing how I need to hone my illustration skills a little moreso, bust out of my routine evening gown sketching that I do day in/day out at work.  I also got motivated after viewing Honeybee Lane’s art journal in my past several visits to her blog, made me think I should document something personal, in an art form, and what better way than to do it daily, via my outfits?  It’ll help me better my illustrations, as well as document what the heck I’ve been up to with my weeks.  And mostly, I just want to see if I can stick this out for the next 365days…how cool will it be to have a year’s worth of illustrations, a year’s worth of blurbs about my day, a year’s worth of MY STYLE…all my own?  Very Cool, if I do say so myself.

Oh the weather, its so fickle.  Makes for an even more fickle wardrobe.  Lately I’ve become accustomed to layers, but heavy thick ones at that.

Lucky for me, last Wednesday was an unseasonably mild, 60 degrees, here in NYC.  Meaning I could test drive one of my new sample sale purchases—a thin satin blouse.

I even got to swap out my chunky knit scarves for a lightweight breezy one.  And look ma…NO SOCKS!

Unfortunately, winter is back, meaning I’m back to the cozy comforts of those thick layers.  Sweaters, scarves, wool stockings, boots, etc.

(On a good note however, it’s Groundhog Day…and The Weather Channel blaring in the background is ecstatically telling me the groundhog did not see his shadow!  EARLY SPRING!)

As I said on Instagram:
“Peter Pan collar: cute like a german shepard puppy, black and studded like my heart!”
Oh so true…and as we know, “cute” is not something I usually gravitate towards in terms of my clothing choices.  So this here is a prime example as to why I’m 33yrs old and STILL shop at Forever 21.  (contrary to popular belief amongst my friends, it is NOT because I think I’m forever 21)
My BF always shrieks with disgust and asks “why do you step foot in there???”.  For this damn shirt, that’s why!
Forever 21 is the go-to spot for trendy disposable items that are OK to just wear once.  The place to find an item you’re not sure about, the place to purchase something you want to give a test run, the place to find something that you’ve always eyed with envy on others but isn’t really YOU on an everyday basis, ya know?
Seriously…peter pan collars and moi?  Not the usual.
So, thanks Forever 21.  And if I never wear this again, I’m ok with that.

Outfit Inspiration!!!!!!!

I’ve got 2-3pairs of pants that can stand in for the ones shown here, a leather jacket or fitted blazer, and I’ve got a chambray shirt, certainly there’s a sweater in my mix, and duh—I’ve got a million tees.  Throw on some accessories like a big bag, some bling, a scarf, and I’ve got 2 outfits put together for this week—it’ll certainly make getting out the door for work much faster.

I can do this, sooooo simple, sooooo my style, and sooooo fast.
