In the June/July ‘13 issue of Lucky Magazine they mentioned having an online section dedicated to “100 Ways to Wear Cutoff Shorts”.
Knowing I’m a fan of cutoffs and practically live in them when the temps heat up, I quickly tapped my way over to the site.
How lackluster, boring, uninspiring, and most of all, “OBVIOUS” could these 100 ways be? Lucky seems to be geared toward the average shopper, the average fashion brain, those that shop at sub par stores…usually found at any mall in the midwest.
I did find a few styles for outfit inspiration, but nothing blockbuster that I could not whipped up on any given summer weekend myself. Nonetheless, I’ll try to keep these 4 looks fresh in my mind starting next weekend when I’m looking to throw on some cutoffs and get on with my life. I think these looks will serve me well when running around the city on an afternoon of errand running.
This is about all the skin I can bare right now…because where the hell is mother nature on this rodeo called “spring?”.
(ok so today is a little nicer than say the day before…but still, she needs to get the memo already)
For now, it looks like booties with skimmers (the springiest thing I will wear at the moment till the sun shines some warmth on NYC), and a fleck of wrist for my bracelets. Other than that, I am covered up like its January.
How are you making do with Spring’s late arrival? Give me some ideas on how to make my winter wear more “spring-y”.
Today’s post comes courtesy of my bird-like attraction to all things sparkly.
And my failure of a manicure using Revlon’s Nail Art Moon Candy (not on fingers shown above). Do NOT, I repeat……… DO NOT……….. waste your money on Revlon’s sparkly little duo of a nail polish piece. I tried to use it 2x in the past 3 months and each time is an epic disaster. By the time you get even 3-4pc. of the large glitter flecks on your nails, its just a goopy sticky never-drying pile of crap. It does not, and will not, come out looking like the picture of the nails attached to the merchandise stand for this product.
So, after much frustration, I quickly removed the mistake of a nail polish, and replaced it with this. (shown above).
While my self mani’s come out quite shoddy…I must say its a much greater success than my first attempt at painting nails on a Sunday afternoon.
And now I wait…one day…till it starts to chip away leaving me to look more unprofessional than I already am.
What I Want: FOR SPRING
As each new season starts, I always find myself wanting a few new pieces to kick my closet into high gear. Spring is (slowly) making its self known to NYC, and I’ve got my eyes on the hunt for a few items…
A STATEMENT NECKLACE:
Makes any simple outfit splendid! Certainly adds spice to t-shirts and jeans!
A FITTED LEATHER JACKET:
The one I have currently, its more of a bomber style. I want one with a wee slimmer fit, and simple details. Perfect for reigning in all those loose tees or flowy dresses, right?
WAVY, EASY HAIR:
A la Nicole Richie, Alexa Chung, The Fall 2013 Pucci runway show, etc…got my hair appointment scheduled for May 18th, but it can’t get here fast enough!
Finally got myself an oversized men’s style watch…and a lovely rose-gold one at that. Occasionally I fall victim to Jewelmint like that!

Just call me “Switzerland”. With my go-to mix of neutrals, why not?
Mixing black, shades of brown, creams, etc. I get myself together a lot faster than if I try to play with color. And really, who wants the headache of dressing themselves? And with too much color, I’ve seen it myself via fashion blogs, one can really end up looking like a nightmare of a circus clown, no?
This love of neutrals is exactly why I chose the purse I did when I was on the hunt for a new handbag. It goes with practially 99% of all my outfits. So with the amount of wear it’ll get, I practically got it for a STEAL!
I’m about a month behind in coloring my everyday outfit sketches…eeek!
So far behind, I realized I hadn’t posted any in a while, and I also realized I needed to take this week off from sketching. No worries, I’m not going to stop till I have 365 sketches, even if it takes longer than 1 calendar year.
I’ll catch up on my 2-3weeks of uncolored sketches, then start sketching a whole new slew of get-ups. Until then, here’s a few from my trip to Atlantic City and the following week.
Apparently I wear pants far too often, and wayyyyyyyyyyyy too much black.
I trimmed my bangs last night, they were in my eyes, causing near blindness. They’re so-so I’d say, not anything salon-worthy that’s for sure, but they are fuller and I can see now, so that’s a plus. I’ll deal till I find the time to make an appointment at Aveda.
Which reminds me, why not play with ridiculous hairstyles in the meantime? That’s what happens when one stumbles across a silly app like “TAAZ Hair Try On”!
Luckily, I can say my selfie trim on the bangs turned out better than any of these freakish ‘dos.
My hair is overgrown, which means bangs in my eyes. But with no time to make a hair appointment lately, I’ve been finding myself wearing my hair up and out of my face more and more—a true taletell sign that its time for a cut, right?
Actually though, I’m getting used to it. Not enough though that I’ll be getting rid of my bangs anytime soon, just enough that I’m ok with this harsher, more strong, look I’ve been debuting.
I rather quite like the way it puts my eyebrows on display. While they are not the fullest of full, or the most upkept brows out there, I’ve always enjoyed their shape and the low maintenance they’ve required (never a wax, barely a pluck), and this is that.
Not to mention, my baby topknot (cause my hair is baby fine and means I barely get a sprout up there), means I can leave it dirty a day…get ready faster, and the insta-facelift. Seriously, have you ever noticed how pulling your hair up brings out your cheekbones…SCORE!
Word of advice, no matter how tacky the nail stickers (reasons I buy), don’t buy the cheapos, after 5hrs they’re coming off already. Boo
